Le Grand Bleu

2021

Oil color on 40 x 50 cm MDF panel, ready to hang in simplistic frame.

Jean-Luc Besson's similar titled movie is beautiful and yet quite "different" from main stream. I don't want to spoil it in case you haven't seen it but let's say there's something very sad about the father – boy relationship at the beginning. It probably explains alot why the main character feels himself so detached from everything else but his sea and the dolphins. I wanted to imagine a modern, happy version of the Big Blue. During the last 10 years or so open water swimming has brought me immense joy. My childhood and youth we were almost living in the water, going from beach to another—I wonder how we didn't turn into fish. It comes as no surprise that there are already many water themed paintings in my gallery...

SOLD but soon available in fine quality print on either canvas or paper.
