Oil colour on 38 x 46 cm prefab canvas.
Ever so often the inspiration to paint owes to music I'm listening. Since youth, I've listened quite much to classical music as well but for some reason only lately more to Richard Wagner. One of his best known preludes, even used in many movies, is the beginning to Das Rheingold. It's actually amazing how he has constructed such a steadily growing wall of sound for an orchestra. Here's the soundtrack for this painting in Youtube.
The photo reference I took a few years ago close to my childhood home as I went for a swim in lake Näsijärvi near Tampere. It's the place where we constantly swam, played, stayed in tents with friends as a kid and in youth. This one was a windy day and waves were washing the shore stones in endless variations. A sight that often mesmerizes me for periods of time. During those moments you realize how every wave that caresses the stones is so different from others. If you freeze the scene at a suitable moment you'll also realize that the waters are capable of taking forms and interactions that seem to defy any logic. The next millisecond and the scene looks different. Out of many photos I took on slow shutter this seems to capture it best.
