Island Innocence

2024

Oilpainting on 40 x 80 cm prefab canvas

The commissioner described the source photo to this painting with words like "innocent and funny", "a bit in the outfit of Adam and Eve", and I fell in love with all that as soon as got it going. The pair had been on a solitary island the previous summer and they enjoyed their peace. As a climber and outdoors person I have experienced a lot of tent nights and being under nature's terms, so it was very easy to relate to this. Life is best out in nature and when it's with your loved one, then you create Memories. The expressions on this painting speak exactly about that.

The painting is quite big and when considering the framing of the faces, the commissioner was initially a bit worried. It was great, in my opinion, that she nevertheless boldly went with the bigger size—after all, you usually view a painting from some distance. It was really rewarding and inspiring to paint the faces and hair in this scale.

Because of my health issues then this painting also was delayed somewhat but gladly not by much. Thank you, again, for the patience!
