You can certainly see this painting any way you like (and indeed you should) but the inspiration came from the song of the same title by Thomas Dybdahl. You can listen to the song below but be warned, it's a very sad although a beautiful one! You'll understand if you've experienced something similar.

I sought after a looser style and I'm pleased with the outcome. Like a bark boat, rudderless in the waves of twilight, tha's what we humans are, at least sometimes.
