Oil color on 46 x 55 cm canvas, ready to hang as it is.
I read Boris Pasternak's novel Doctor Zhivago in my youth and saw the movie only afterwards. The book, as we know, was forbidden in the Soviet Union until its fall. Many elements in the book have analogies in the author's life, e.g. Yuri's love for two women. That doesn't sit well with my values but in Soviet Union "all personal was dead and bourgeois" so I guess it was reflected rather differently from us. The story is still impressive.
The main roles were played by Egyptian born Omar Sharif and young Julie Christie who had just had her breakthrough. David Lean directed this movie in 1965.
The painting came about quite quickly and painlessly. It was a nice work and I had many reference photos from the movie well in advance. Now was the right time.
