Sorrow Bird

2020

Oil on A4 size acrylic and oil colour paper, in black frame.

My present Fall has been characterized by deep grief and a constant hurry with work. As explained elsewhere, this painting thing is but a dear hobby for now although it may produce some welcome extra income every now and then. Therefore, it has to step aside whenever I'm short of time. Not that it felt nice but...

Perhaps it's mostly because of the sorrow but I haven't been able to engage in my unfinished paintings like before, and I haven't really even tried. The expression has to flow freely, not forcibly. One night, however, I remembered a scene from TV series Wallander in which Kurt, the protagonist, has been forced to leave his work due to Alzheimer's and he's by the sea, staring helplessly into the horizon. I felt that motif needed to be painted and so I took a screen capture. It functioned as loose reference only. The title of this painting takes after that episode.

At the same time, I decided to start a series of "one-night-impressionism". The work has to be finished the same evening, or within a day. When inspiration strikes I'll do these paintings, quite irregularly. The format will most likely be this special A4 paper but they can be purchased in frames for convenience.

DONATED to a friend dealing with sorrow, too.
